Is That Nolte's Current Vocal Range in A Walk in the Woods?

His voice is so gravely it sounds like it's painful to him when he speaks.

I was just wondering if that's what he sounds like all the time now or was he putting it on for the role?

We just watched an interview with Nolte on CBS Sunday Morning; he sounds awful. The sound reminds me of people whose voice boxes are diseased. He looks really haggard, as well.

Well, he is 75 now. He smoked and drank a lot during the past decades, both isn't very good for one's voice. And age takes its toll on one's voice, too.
