Looks like Neeson is turning into Charles Bronson

Just noticed another Liam Neeson action film is being released today and it looks to be another vigilante thriller similar to Taken and the other action films he's pumped out over the last 7 or so years. While it's still neat to no doubt see him at kick butt and mow down the creeps, I'm starting to think the uniqueness of his "dignified man who becomes a deadly killer when pushed" routine is beginning to wear a bit thin. Look at Charles Bronson, another middle aged actor who after years of being an acclaimed supporting actor in classics like the Magnificent Seven, the Great Escape, and Once Upon a Time in the West, suddenly became an action star on the strength on the hit vigilante film Death Wish. Afterwards he was a top box-office draw in the late 70's and in demand to do more Death Wish films and similar action films about ordinary men or cops who took the law into their own hands when pushed. While he was good and even great in that part of the urban vigilante/supercop, unfortunately he didn't know when to quit and slowly he became typecast. After awhile he wasn't able to get other substantial roles outside of the action genre (except for of a small role in the Indian Runner) and once his starring vehicles started becoming old hat, he faded away into TV movie obscurity in the 90's. Sort of a sad fall from grace for an actor who was once looked at as a reliable and acclaimed character actor worldwide. Liam Neeson isn't there yet and is still hired for serious roles like The Grey, but if he pumps out too many Taken reduxes, he could easily fall into the same rut as Bronson where people just roll their eyes and yawn whenever Neeson releases another action movie. Clint Eastwood is a great example of an actor who avoided the action hero trap and kept things fresh by doing comedies, directing, Western dramas, etc. Now he's looked at as a respected actor and director whom audiences love and the Academy falls all over for. Neeson probably needs to start pulling back on the action movies and push himself into other challenging roles while he still can, so he could still be seen as an actor rather than a "product"; if not, he could be the next Bronson, Norris, or Reynolds who ended up losing credibility with audiences.

I wholeheartedly agree and unfortunately I'm aready at the point that I'm joking about the typecast and don't watch his emulating films anymore.

Anyways, I do hope that he does something different or even portray another character in his action movies and if not...bummer.

Agreed. I only came on the Neeson board to see if anyone else is seeing the Bronson similarities to be honest.

I kinda want a comedy with him and Denzel Washington. I don't know why.

A bit of the old ultraviolence...
