I agree with your number 1. But it's different than the rest of the Moore Bonds because it generally plays it straight, as opposed to the others that really camp it up and go for comedy constantly.

It might be the most faithful to the Fleming books of any Bond movie up to that point. I saw a documentary that said that the movie was originally going to be Dalton's first Bond, but he couldn't do it. Dalton wanted it to be more in the style of the books and when he had to drop out they just kept the script as is and went with Moore again.

I like 'em all -- and regard Moore's run as the all-around most entertaining in the franchise -- but here's how I rank 'em favorite to least favorite...

The Spy Who Loved Me 1977
Moonraker 1979
Octopussy 1983
For Your Eyes Only 1981
A View to a Kill 1985
Live and Let Die 1973
The Man with the Golden Gun 1974

Due to the recent passing of Legendary Sir Roger Moore I am going to go through his Bond films to see if they deserve more merit than they get!

reply

Live and let die wins for that scene where Bond makes the evil mastermind swallow a pill that causes him to blow up like a balloon, fly up the ceiling, and explode alone.

reply

That was the beginning of the end of Moore's Bond movies being serious as the was right into cartoon town where unfortunately the movies tended to go from then on during Moore's reign.
