No. That came from Hollywood Babylon. Not all that stuff was true.

Not that she DID cocaine in her high heels, but the rumor was that she stored it in a hollowed-out part of those stacked shoes she wore. How else could you attribute a heart attack to someone of 49? It blew her heart out-very sad. And on TV as well!

There is no evidence or proof she did cocaine other than Kenneth Anger's delusional rants (google Hollywood Babylon debunked).

Though I fear it out of date, according to the last English biography on her Carmen was in ill health during the 1940s after a botched nose job, and she had taken to drinking after that. She suffered severe depression and was sure she was dying of all sorts of ailments. When she finally was near well enough her husband put her on a string of engagements that overworked an already unstable woman, that is most likely (combined with the ill health) what did her in.

The cocaine in the shoes story isn't true.

Sadly Carmen Miranda became a victim of the pill culture that was common in Hollywood in the 1940s (much like Judy Garland). Pepped up on Amphetamines during the day, she needed sedatives in order to sleep at night. She was also a workaholic by all accounts, and that coupled with decades of taking pills probably contributed to her early death.
