The wannabe European upper class Brazilians absolutely hated her. She reminded them all that their nation wasnt white, and it hurt them to their souls.
If so, I hope the fact of being loved and admired by the rest of the world must have been enough consolation for her.

I am brazilian...and I must say, Carmen Miranda is an icon in Brazil. Specially in Carnival she is remembered. Her costums are one of the most popular in this time. And some samba schools pay often homage to her.
