Using Shannen Doherty's illness to expound on feminism

What the actual fvck is she thinking?

If anyone isn't aware, Rose took to Instagram a couple of months ago to pen a massive diatribe about how she and Shannen Doherty essentially were "pitted against one another" by the industry and patriarchy. Hm. I don't know if you got the memo, Rose, but Ms. Doherty actually has tangible problems, like, I don't know, literally fighting for her life?

Imparting a few kind words would have sufficed, but instead she used it as an opportunity to pontificate on her newfound feminist awakening—not even once in the entire post does she directly acknowledge the fact that Shannen is basically dying:

Dear @theshando Someone made this of us & I wanted to share it with you as it made me reflect. We have a funny history. As young women we were pitted against each other for society's pleasure. The rules of Hollywood engagement brainwashed into us were truly vile. The men & brainwashed women in our business made it so we couldn't be friends, I regret that. We were cast in this weird fake reality show where we were supposed to be enemies. I resented it greatly. I regret not being awake enough to articulate this to you at the time. Fear was drilled into me from day one in this town & you were the barometer by which my behavior was judged. I was under a microscope, one false move and I'd be branded 'difficult' just like you. I think we all know what happens when girls here get out of line. I willfully remained enigmatic & unengaged. The Bad Girl Shaming you received at the hands of the media was merciless. Global media shaming is real AF, as you know. *beep* them all & their machine, too. You cast a long shadow over my life. We were both cast in a fake real life role, that of the Bad Girl. I had to prove I wasn't as bad as you or I'd get the axe, too. But we were never the bad ones, it was them., the Beige Brained White Dudes in Charge. Well *beep* them. Damn them for *beep* with our minds & careers just because their misogynistic belief systems couldn't sanction two strong females in a traditionally subservient role- actress. I refused to give them the cat fight they so wanted. Shannen, we didn't know it yet, but we were the good ones. Two boss young women that scared the 'faux-liberals in provincial Hollywood, for that sin we got burned at the media stake, egged on by Hollywood who believe the press they start. There was a strongly inferred threat of me being blacklisted in tv as I'd been in film. Instead of understanding that we were a different breed, they tried to crush us, but they couldn't. I send you strength. ⚒🛡#rosearmy #BRAVE #shannendoherty #typos4life

I used to *sort of* like her but this is absolutely revolting to me.

I do agree about faux liberals, but what a laugh she thinks she scared anyone.

She was a minor, C list actress at best, only known for her big boobs in Scream and the mediocre at box office Planet Terror, which she got by screwing a married Rodriguez. She scares nobody! She is a blip on the radar. Not a thing has come out of her rape allegations.

She's acting like she is Joan of Arc.

But, yet, for all her bluster, it's all poor us who were "brainwashed" and manipulated like she was a poor little helpless girl. Which is it? Is she this big super bad SJW or is she poor little girl tricked by these mean white guys?

What a self righteous moron. Like you say, here's a woman dying from cancer and this stupid bimbo is stepping on her nearly dead body to make it all about her.

What a vile creature.

This is exactly why I want all of her fans to question her SJW actions.

In the first clause she blames everyone else for them not getting along, then in the second clause she "regrets that". Why is she regretting the alleged machinations of Hollywood? You can't feel regret for something that's allegedly beyond your control. Freudian slip much?

Yeah, sorry Rose, but you don't get to play the "It ain't me, it's the patriarchy" card. If you were a bitch to Shannen then just own up to it. But no, can't take personal responsibility for anything, everything is the fault of men.

Must dash. I forgot to feed my wombat.

Good sentence breakdown—I didn't even notice that because I was too taken up by the entirety of the situation, which repulsed me. It's distasteful and gross, and what's absurd is that she evidently saw nothing wrong with it.

"An opportunity to tell you I'm a feminist? I'll take it!" No mind that Doherty is on her potential deathbed right now or anything. Contemporary feminism in the western world is the equivalent of an aborted fetus.

Mr. Ectoplasm:

Enough---tired of people like you whining about feminism. You clearly had NO understanding of what she was talking about or trying to say--just admit that, and stop using that as an excuse to bash feminism, which none of you here even understand, apparently. All McGowan said was that she regretted how she felt that the media played them against each other. And to be fair, Doherty (who used to be one of my favorite actresses) did,in fact, have a reputation for not getting along with her co-stars and that was for most of the '90s, at least.

Nobody is bashing Rose for being a feminist...

I don't mind activista being the counterpoint, but she constantly keeps putting words into our mouths we didn't say.

Agreed, the point is not to bash McGowan's feminism, it's her shamelessly using a tragedy to put the spotlight on her.
