That proves he's not a bigoted, closed-minded fool?

I'm straight and for gay marriage.

I'm a libertarian which means free liberty for all.

Shouldn't libertarians not believe in gay marriage for the simple fact that they don't think governments should issue marriage licenses?

A libertarian is someone is is for the rights of the people and limiting the government. We place human rights above gov't activity. If one group is permitted to have ___ right, all are.

Right, but ideally, wouldn't you rather all marriage done by churches and private institutions instead of the government limiting how many marriage licenses can be given out per year? And thereby basing your housing and tax status off the institution of marriage?
Wouldn't that be "for the rights of the people and limiting the government"?

I'm a follower of what I call "realistic libertarianism." I live in America, therefore I must work with what I have. While the ultimate pursuit WOULD be a complete limitation of the power of the government, that's not going to happen any time soon (and probably never), therefore we try to inject as much libertarian philosophy as we possibly can with what we have provided for us.

I mean, having marriage licenses privatized is probably more realistic than legalizing drugs and prostitution, but most libertarians i know are pretty vocal on that front.

Legalization of marijuana is virtually on the horizon and prostitution is legal in some places. Our government won't revoke social benefits like marriage.
