I couldn't agree more. He seems to appeal to the faux intellectual crowd. You know, the kind of people who think they are cool because they like something different.

Everything I've seen him in he just butchers his role. Especially if he has to do an accent. He's kind of like Costner's uglier brother, talent-wise. The difference being that Costner can actually fit into the Western niche perfectly whereas Malkovich just always feels awkwardly out of place.

I agree. His delivery is strange and comes across as unnatural

Malkovich's affectation is the number one reason why I never warmed up to him as an actor. He totally ruined Crossbones. You could barely understand him half the time, and his "British" accent was laughable.

Have any of you seen Places in the heart? If not You should. He gives an amazing performance in it imo.

Green Goblin is great! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1L4ZuaVvaw

He is one of the best actors around

He's hot and cold. Just like how ham can be served.

He's been good in some roles and just completely overdone it in others.

Also agree. I haven't seen him in a lot of his films-- only about a dozen or so-- but in every one, he sounds like a tired queen who is In A Mood, Gurlfrien'. Even when his character isn't a jerkwad, his tone is one of "I am so over you, and I won't even try to hide my bitchy, dismissive attitude about it." So yeah, not a whole lot of range there. Isn't that supposed to be a hallmark of a great actor?
