His Accent Hurt His Career


Every time he spoke it reminded people of Dracula and it limited him to playing certain kinds of roles. The English in Hollywood at the time there was a big British brand of actors, you have plenty of them in Frankenstein etc, so Karloff was openly accepted because he spoke English very well. Don't know any other star who ended up being thrown away after being made so famous.

Long term, yes. Short term, it was a big plus for him.
