Have Americans seen him in anything good?

Elias has been in some really good Canadian and international films that received critical acclaim, such as Exotica. It seems that most Americans know him only for being Casey Jones and the guy from Chicago PD. I'm sure he's good in those too, but it might be a surprise to some that he is a top rate actor who just hasn't gotten very many serious roles in the USA.

'Zodiac' is one of David Fincher's best films, in a career without any true stinkers for that matter, and Elias Koteas plays a sizable supporting role as a detective.

'Let Me In' isn't exceptional compared to the Swedish original 'Let the Right One In', but compared to other remakes of foreign films it turned out well. It was directed by Matt Reeves whose upcoming Batman movie looks promising. Elias Koteas plays a central character. As another cop.

Going back a number of years, to 1995, not so long after his turn in TMNT, he was in 'The Prophecy' playing a man who gets caught up in a battle against some sinister angels. That man happens to be a cop.

Not a film, but the American remake tv series of 'The Killing'. In the third season he plays a fairly major role as yet another police officer.

It's kind of sad to see him typecast in most of his well known roles, and given the current political climate in America, I can't imagine there will be as many parts in the near future for middle aged white guys to play good guy cops.
I've seen about half the things he's been in, and have seen his range. He can play a lot more than he has been recently. I don't blame him for taking work where he can get it, but it'd be cool to see him have a prominent role that wasn't as law enforcement.

He's had small roles in successful movies like 'Gattaca', and 'Benjamin Button', and a guest starring credits on episodes of 'House M.D.' and 'The Sopranos' but to most of the audience he's more of a 'that guy' actor. He gets confused for Christopher Meloni by a lot of people who see him in things. He doesn't have much name recognition.

I'd love to see him do more films like the ones he did with Atom Egoyan and David Cronenberg.
