What do you think was...

Boris' best movie? For me, "Bride of Frankenstein".

I liked him in "Tower of London," 1939. He plays "Mord," a club footed executioner. He's a child killer as well in this, a very frightening scene. Nothing is shown, but, the children are terrified and there is a lot of screaming off screen.

This is a complete movie and should be viewed. Beautifully mounted, the cast is stellar, the story easily told and thus understood.

Karloff dominates the screen.

Yes, when she jerks her head there sharply at the end, and hisses. They did a good job in this film. It's on quite a bit on my cable and I catch bits & pieces. Have not watched it end-to-end. Don't know why, just haven't been compelled to for some damn reason.

You have the monster classics, and then you have Targets (1968).

'Frankenstein' for me. Despite the absence of his lisped voice which was his greatest asset.

Three-way tie for me:

"Bride of Frankenstein", "The Body Snatcher" (which has his best performance), and "How the Grinch stole Christmas". I'm perfectly serious about the last, IMHO it's a masterful filmic work.

Impossible to choose between Frankenstein, The Mask of Fu Manchu and The Body Snatcher.

Frankenstein.
The combination of that makeup and his performance works wonderfully.
I think Karloff just photographs really well. He has a sadness in his face that makes him sympathetic in his monster rolls, especially as the Frankenstein monster.
