Old Star Wars cast would never have come back

If it wasn't for George Lucas who brought them together right before selling for Disney. He had already stories for the next sequels. Kathleen Kennedy used Lucas tto bring back the cast by making him think his stories would be used. When the old cast signed in, they dumped George Lucas and went for the most stupid script imaginable. That alone is a proof they never had any story to begin with. They probably were scared pf Lucas script, it could have been received like the prequels. They wanted to cash in quick on nostalgia instead.

reply

Why is that a bad thing? They are actually listening to fans. The prequels were horrible and almost completely ruined Star Wars. George Lucas is basically poison, and they were smart to distance themselves and the new trilogy from him and his mess.

reply

Listening to fans? The only person they are listening to is kathleen kennedy ... and she is a moron.

reply

nazcarfanatic24 Yes and then Disney and Kathleen Kennedy did worse than George Lucas ever did. Oh that is sure wonderful...Not! The prequels were not horrible. They were well written, thoughtful stories that gave fans the pleasure of hearing Anakin and Obi-wans backstories. And has it ever occurred to you how ignorant it is for someone to make negative remarks and not give reasons. Maybe you did not give any reasons for not liking the prequels because you know what you would say would sound senseless.

reply

They're not listening to fans. They're listening to share holders.

The first transport is away... hey!

See, I'm torn. On the one hand, I admire Lucas' creative impulses and his willingness to try new things. On the other hand, The Force Awakens is, for all its cash-motivated creation, a vastly superior film to the three turds Lucas made over the last decade or so.

Ultimately, I actually think that Star Wars as we know it (knew it?) ended after Return of the Jedi. Then it turned into a toy company and any attempt to revive it always falls short, in my opinion, of the creative innocence of those original films.

reply

Lucas' stories and saga are genius. What he lacks is that genius in script writing and directing. His imagination is infinite. What the prequels needed was a different director and a good script writer to put Lucas' ideas on film.

reply

Disney getting this out of Lucas' hands was the best that has happened to this franchise in a long time.

Evidence?

reply

nazcarfanatic24, I disagree with you completely. I love all original 6 Star Wars and that includes all 3 prequels. All 6 are what make Star Wars to me, not The Force Awakens. I thank George Lucas for the prequels, and even though you may not like the prequels, guess what? I DO.

^ This.

Aarooooooon Totally agree with you. After Return of the Jedi, I looked forward so much to seeing Luke training young ones as a Jedi Master, Leia and Han having a happy marriage. I knew full well that the movie would have the beginnings of rebellion and war starting to happen. But it is like Kathleen Kennedy wanted no happiness for the characters George Lucas created. I can accept that with time some things would have changed and the happiness would even be tempered with some sad times because even at the end of Revenge of the Sith, you would never expect to find Obi-wan living as a hermit in episode 4. But Obiwan was still a fighter. Luke should have been portrayed like that as well. Luke deserved much more screen time than he got and a much better story for him. They let him die too soon.

reply

yeah well , by the time they got to make the sequel to Rotj it was 30 years later and the actors looked older , so they had to skip Luke training jedis and the happy marriage bit , including a demon child it seems , and move on to the next war.

reply

Mark Hamill is no older than Alec Guinness was when he was in Star Wars. S the ages of the performers have nothing to do with it.

reply

yeah , but Obi wan had long since given up Training in ep 4 , having lost Vader to the dark side and was living in a cave - exactly like Luke in that last film having lost Darth emo to the dark side.
So then he trainind Rey a bit , just as obi wan trained Luke a bit
wait , what are we talking about?

reply

No there was no training of Rey, or at least I don't call that training. And now we know for a fact that Mark Hamill wanted to train Rey and wanted to do some lightsaber fighting.

reply

Maybe this was Lucas plan all a long... Get Disney to make something worse than the prequels to make them less hated?

I honestly think he failed as both TFA and TLJ and better than TPM and AOTC... ROTS is porbably better all of them... but all those films have several issues...

reply

TFA is alot bettet than the prequels

reply

TFA is solid... but not great in my opinion... I just love Palpatine in ROTS which probably makes me like that film a little more than TFA... But overall TFA is probably a better film... Because it does not include a whiny Anakin and an emotionless Amidala... But Palpatine just wins it for me...

reply

The prequel stories are magnificent better than the OT , just hate how it was all brought together, the choice of actors, the CGI species etc

reply

Agreed... There are a very cool story in the prequels... But yes the execution was terrible...

reply

Harrison Ford came back because Abrams agreed to do what Lucas never had the balls to do. Kill Han Solo

Hamill's and Fisher's schedules weren't exactly packed. And the checks cleared, and people were excited to see them in a movie for the first time since...…….. Return of the Jedi.

I liked the DT movies, but would never say someone who didn't was wrong. But I will tell you you're wrong if you think anything Lucas would have done with another trilogy would have been better. As evidence I present: Jar Jar Binks, Jake Lloyd, a 14 year old elected monarch with term limits, "I hate sand.", creepy Anakin, Windu taking the 3 most worthless Jedi Masters with him to confront a Sith, "NOOOOOOOOOO", "From my point of view the Jedi are evil.", Greedo shooting first, then at the same time, turning the Wampa into a cartoon, Jabba's dance party, and of course The Holiday Special.
