Same mannerisms, same facial expressions

He's played the same character ever since Four Weddings - with the exception of About a Boy.
I'm simply disappointed. Used to be a fan a decade ago..

won't know it's him due to the artful makeup....

well, it's hard to say his characters in "An Awfully Big Adventure" (1995) and "Extreme Measures" (1996) are similar in any way.

About a Boy was such a great movie.

I think Hugh gets cast in certain roles that fit his stereotype. A lot like Jennifer Aniston with the exception of "The Good Girl" which was a sort of black comedy as opposed to her rom com roles. I have seen Hugh in a straight role but can't recall the title. It starred Michael York. Hugh played his son but to be honest I think I infinitely prefer him in comedy roles. He really suits the bumbling Etonian type.

He plays variations of the same role. The wealthy, out-of-touch but lovable character appears in About a Boy, Two Weeks Notice, and Music & Lyrics.

I think to some extent, he's not particularly happy about his career...but we don't exactly see him seeking out small indies or theater roles, though, so maybe he just doesn't really care to push himself. Understandable. I'm sure that once you've made millions of dollars in a role you've done before, anyone would be a bit jaded.
