Snubbed!

Won Volpi Cup for "Maurice", then snubbed for Oscar. Won BAFTA and Golden Globe for "Four Weddings", then Oscars snubbed him again. Now this time he got the closest to the nom ever - with his BAFTA, Golden Globe, SAG, Critics Choice, Satallite nominations but snubbed again. Disappointing.

Yea, it's disappointing. He was great in Jenkins. But of course, they nominated Streep... again, mostly because of her Trump speech. It wasn't even one of her best performances. Should have known better. Supporting performances from movies released way before Oscar season don't get nominated-- lead performers have a shot, but not supporting.

He deserved the oscar nomination more than Streep did.

He was superb in Maurice but he was never in the conversation for Oscar consideration so I wouldn't say he was snubbed for that. But yes, he came very close this year and it's sad he didn't get in. I think category confusion didn't help, and he couldn't campaign quite as much as some other actors do as he's filming the Paddington sequel in Britain.

He was very good in Florence Foster Jenkins! It's a pity that a good movie or performance can get snubbed, just because it was released at the wrong time of the year! Sadly, that happens pretty much every year, at least once. 
