You do know his father died of a heart attack while on his mail route when John was only 2yo, before his sister was even born, right? His brother helped their mother raise them.
Yes, he knows full well his weight vs health issues, esp with that history, but even a small budget movie or theatre run (he just wrapped a West End run in London with Damian Lewis) requires actors to get check ups before insurance will approve them. So for people like Goodman, Candy, Gandalfini, the Knipfing Bros (Kevin and Gary), Gleeson, Gardell, Stonestreet, Addy, etc, staying busy in front of the cameras required regular medical exams.
(altho I think Candy died before it was a regular thing? we def lost Belushi before that.)
sure, John ballooned up in the early 2000s, but he also now has a daily trainer (she makes him do morning boxing) to keep him active and fit, even if he has put back on a few pounds he shed some years back.
