Why the Chicago accent?

I see he was born in Missouri. Was he raised in Chicago, or thereabouts? He has a strong accent, and it sounds like northern Illinois, or northern Midwest around the Great Lakes area. Is it an affectation that he purposely uses?

he was born and raised in St Louis suburb of Affton.
ain't too much off from how we speak around here. just ignore Nelly's long rrrrrrrr's.

it might be a slight influence from his married life in NOLA? both StL and NOLA are large Blues sources (hockey team aside) along with Chicago.

Chicago Accent?... LMAO... We talk nothing like Goodman and neither does he sound like a Chicago native... Not even in the least bit.
