what happened to his career?

I was watching THE UNTOUCHABLES the other day and I remember when I first saw it.
When I saw it I thought ANDY GARCIA was going to be a huge star but it never really happened.
Did he try to be a star and failed or did he not want it?
What are his best performances? I have not seen him in much for ages.

Andy could be the biggest star only if he wants to. Over the years, he chose roles which he liked and not because of the commercial success. He continues to make movies and a lots of them are independent movies which did not open in 3000 movie cinemas on a Friday night. That is the reason why most people have not seen him in ages. Check the filmograhpy in imdb and you will find the names of those movies. I think he best performances are:
When a man loves a woman
Things to do in Denver when you are dead
Modigliani
Lost City
City Island
Godfather part III

I was just thinking the same thing! He was blowing up around the time the Untouchables came out, (which just finished playing on AMChd). Once he did the third Godfather (which kind of sucked) he wasn't hyped as much as an up and coming star. He's still working he's just never done anything as widely successful.

I think a few films in the early 90s failed and his star declined.

However, he then retreated to some personal projects whilst fitting the Ocean films in which did good box office.

Its that man again!!

'remember reading or seeing an interview where he said he did not work for six years because he was busy raising his daughters. Family over work, I wish most actors and actresses did this. Gotta love the fact that he put his family first'

translation: no offers.
A lot of good raising his daughters(family) will do with no paycheck. Hollywood forgets about you when you take that vacation.

I doubt it, he was still hot in the 90s and by that I mean women wanted him and men wanted to be or look like him. I was just a kid, a teenager yet everyone I knew had a huge crush on him including me when he went away. So I believe his story.

Judging by his career I think he prefers to independent movies with some mainstream films thrown in there for fun.

How much longer do I have to wait?

reply

He was blacklisted by mainstream Hollywood for daring to make an anti-Communist movie that depicted the liberal "hero", Che Guevara, as a mass-murdering piece of scum. That's why he mainly makes independents now.
