Why she gave up on her third Oscar?!

I know she's a fighter
What happened to to her???
She can beats Meryl overated Streep

reply

Fonda greatly admired Streep when the latter made her film debut in JULIA. She tried to get Streep for the Penelope Milford role in COMING HOME, but there was some scheduling conflict.

I think Fonda has a broader range than Streep, as far as performing abilities go....but Streep has more versatility in how she can look (either pretty or plain.)

I don't like to pit them against each other, though. They're both fab.

Hey cookie. You remind me of my friend Toking from the old site. Are you her?

reply

Sadly, no. I was once known far and wide as cookiela2001 (which is when I joined).

The mean posters I disagreed with used to call me Cookielah and Crocky and "whatever-the-hell-your-name-is." Children can be so cruel.

NEVER AGAIN!

Oh, to bad. I think you guys would get along. She had extensive knowledge of actors and old figures like Jane. She mostly posted on old sitcoms.

Alright cookie just checking. Also sorry that happened to you. People can be cruel.

reply

To be fair, I don't know what I was thinking when I picked the unintelligible name COOKIELA2001, anyway : ) It was bound to happen.

There was a period of a decade or so - from They Shoot Horses, Don't They up until The China Syndrome - where Fonda was one of the best working American actresses. Sadly her later performances (including her last two nominations) were generally not in the same class. I don't think she was ever in the running for a third Oscar.

She is enough of a legend that she could win a third now if the right role came along, but her big screen roles are quite infrequent these days and usually not very good, so it seems unlikely.

reply

She personally has given up, it seems. Grace and Frankie is what she is passionate about.

reply

Yep -- and Grace and Frankie is a big hit, so good luck to her. It would be nice to see her in one more great movie role - the last thing I saw her in was Youth, a smallish role, but honestly I didn't think she was very good in it.
