Fans of David Fincher, how old are you?

Just having a conversation with my girlfriend. We watched Gone Girl on the Thursday night screening. And we just now finished watching Se7en at home (she had not seen the movie since 1995 when it came out).

She then asked me "I wonder, how many people go see Gone Girl, and for them it's just another Ben Affleck movie - and how many knows Gone Girl is a David Fincher movie".

We had a bit of a debate, and I told her that pretty much, any male over 30 knows about David Fincher, given how successful Se7en was at the time, and how Fight Club become a classic after it's DVD release.

I myself am 32, my girlfriend is 29.

Which brings up the question: How old are you?

reply

I'm 23 years old. I never had the privilege of seeing Se7en or Fight Club when they were released, but I luckily recognized the brilliance behind The Social Network and Fincher quickly became my favorite working director, along with PTA. So I definitely saw Gone Girl this weekend as a Fincher movie and absolutely loved it.

Well I am 34, and i've seen al his movies except Gone Girl :) (maybe i will catch it up here in Belgium)

I just like his style ;)

reply

I'm 18, the only Fincher films I've seen are Fight Club and The Social Network, but I loved both.

25 and Fincher is one of my favorite directors

fight club and seven blew me away when I saw them for the first time at home
then I saw the game and was hooked

ever since, I always see his movies in theaters and take as many people as I can with me

Zodiac is probably my favorite out of his movies I have seen in the cinema

I read gone girl and it was a great adaption
perfect director for this subject matter

I'm 24 and female. I've seen all of Fincher's, films including Gone Girl, and most during their initial theatrical run. I think a fair percentage of people, around my age, who are actively engaged with film and see a lot of different movies throughout the year know who Fincher is. I wouldn't have been interested in seeing Gone Girl if he hadn't directed it and specifically saw it to watch his performance as well.

While I agree that Fincher is an excellent director, I was thinking about how Se7en came out nearly 20 years ago and I have to take issue with your statement that you saw "most" of his films in their initial runs.

A 24 year old in 2014 would have had to have watched, in the theater:
Alien 3 at 2 years old
Se7en at 5 years old
The Game at 7 years old
Fight Club at 10 years old
Panic Room at 12 years old
Zodiac at 17 years old
Benjamin Button at 18 years old
The Social Network at 20 years old
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo at 21 years old
Gone Girl at 24 years old

I'd guess you're closer to half at most?

reply

those are his best..but do watch gone girl..and others of course ;)
