I watched the filming of a scene outside the Plaza Hotel, the site of an award ceremony. Turned out it was the opening scene.

I have heard that as well. I think Patty and Sally were often considered for many of the same roles during the 60s and 70s. I can imagine each actress playing the other's roles in many different movies.
