Did his height kill his career ?

he was fine in the 80's cause he was always playing teenagers but it seemed when he hit his 30's no one took him serious as a leading man

his choices were all his own..he chose to leave hollywood, stop acting, and to write and direct the occassional indy film..he' been upfront about that..he doesnt have charlies money, but his life is how he wants it..more power to him..

reply

Some bad choices and unlucky box office results for some good movies of his killed his career. I always thought he should've stayed as tom cruises pal in the mission impossible series

reply

If that was true, it would have affected Tom Cruise as well.

Did it kill Tom Cruise's career? ;-)

reply

Cruise keeps his career propped up with his lifts.

reply

Cruise must have felt sorry for him enough to cast him in the first Mission: Impossible.

reply

Actually it was payback for a joke. Cruise was visiting the set of Young Guns and said he had never been in a Western before. Estevez had them fit him up with makeup as an extra. They yelled action. Billy the Kid then gunned down Cruise's character. So he decided to return the favor in Mission Impossible.

In the below interview, Tom regards Emilio as his best friend.

but look up some pics with Cruise and Estevez together. Cruise is substantially taller

reply

Cruise is actually shorter (Cruise - 5'4", Estevez 5'-6"). Cruise tends to wear lifts in public. I suspect he's also mastered how to position himself so he looks taller than he actually is.

reply

He stands on boxes in shoots , plus probably they sometimes dig little trenches for taller actors to walk in beside him. Total guess on my part though. I'm sure he makes sure they cast fairly short people around him also.

reply

Cruise is not 5´4. That is Michael J Fox range. If Cruise was really 5´4 it would be considered low hanging fruit and people wouldn´t even bring it up which is why you rarely see MJF mocked for being so short.

reply

Tom Cruise is the same height as Michael J. Fox. So many people bring it up because Cruise goes out of his way to make it seem like he is taller.

When he did Jack Reacher, Lee Child said “With another actor you might get 100% of the height but only 90% of Reacher. With Tom, at 5'-8", you’ll get 100% of Reacher with 90% of the height.”. A critic who knew Cruise personally responded "Where did those extra four inches come from?"

reply

No, he actually is taller. I don´t care what some clearly biased critic thinks Tom´s height is.

reply

He still did some good work. Young guns, Mighty Ducks, Stakeout , Men at Work, Loaded Weapon, Freejack, Judgement night.

Not all hit films, but I sure liked them all. Playing Coach Bombay in Mighty Ducks is what he is most known for

He was still a good looking guy, a pretty decent actor, and if he was average height like his brother Charlie he probably would've been done even better

reply

I disagree, he´s only marginally shorter than Tom Cruise and that never stopped Cruise from being the biggest movie star on the planet.

Estevez 5'5

Cruise 5'7-5'8

Cruise also wears lifts which gives him an edge. He can look give off a 5'9-5'10 illusion

reply

Cruise still looks noticeably shorter than 5'10 actors like Russell Crowe, so I don´t buy he is a perennial lift-wearer. Mark Wahlberg is another who never seems to run out of work and always looks short.
