That would have been so awesome cause he was such an important character! But instead he didn't want to come back and was killed off. I really hated that...
shareThe Godfather 3 suffered without Tom Hagen. That was one of the major things that was "missing" from that film. It would have been great to see the relationship between Tom and Michael in their later years, especially after Fredo's death.

shareHamilton was supposed to be the replacement for Tom Hagen, but NO ONE could touch Duvall's performance. That was the huge chunk missing from the film, seeing Tom & Michael interacting as older man would've made for some truly great scenes between these two great actors. I hated the fact that they killed him off.

Actually he didn't. According to IMDb anyway. Duvall is quoted as saying he was offered between a 1/4th and a 1/3rd of Pacino's salary but would have been fine with one half of what Al was making for the film.
