Age difference "inappropriate"

She says (now) the age difference between her and Sam Neil (s.p.?) in Jurassic Park was "inappropriate."

Absolute nonsense. Sometimes younger women are more mature than their male peers and need a partner with the wisdom an older man has accrued. These relationships are as old as humanity and uptight idiots today need to get over it.

reply

Yeah, I don’t think there was anything inappropriate about the age difference. They were both adults.

reply

I think it's simply a matter that she's pissed that everyone assumed she was Sam Neil's age. I certainly thought she was a lot older than 23..

reply

Uh, Dern was an adult in Jurassic Park, right? On what planet is that "inappropriate" for a woman in her 20's to be with a middle-aged man?

There may be good reasons to avoid relationships with great age differences.

But calling it "inappropriate" as if it's ethically wrong is just bullshit.

What's wrong with this woman?

reply

> What's wrong with this woman?
She's a leftist.

This

reply

I'm not so sure it's a leftist thing per se. It's "woke".

reply

Which is 100% leftist?
Ever seen a "woke" republican/conservative/right winger?

reply

But I think a lot of "woke" people don't know anything about politics. They don't even know what "left" and "right" mean.

reply

Interesting point -- a "woke" conservative would probably want zero government. Which, I guess, would make him/her a libertarian.

I actually don't really know what qualifies as what anymore. I'm suffering from political dysforia(s.p.?).

reply

Lol, these were two consenting adults, weren't they? So now you can only have a partner who shares your birthday???

To be honest, I always thought her character in JP was more around 30 years old, cause that's the way she looked.🤷‍♀️ She's also a doctor instead of a graduate student like in the book, so I think the age difference is smaller than she believes anyway.

She's so desperately trying to be woke, she doesn't even have a clue what she's saying.

reply

So, why did she take the role? She needs to return the money she was paid and a Special Edition should be made with her character edited out of the movie.

reply

Maybe she was doing undercover work for Crispin Glover. They both knew each other from the same acting class, and Crispin was the first actor between the two to work for Spielberg. He was lowballed out of doing the BTTF sequel, and he later wrote an article hinting that Spielberg was a little bit too interested in children.

Julia Phillips wrote a memoir (You'll Never Eat Lunch in This Town Again) where she talked about having worked with Spielberg, hence why he felt comfortable to give her a tour of his Amblin company in the mid-eighties. He had a day-care center, which made her remark that he is as much of a great user of children as he is a lover of them.

Crispin might have read this book, and desperately needed an inside man to glean info. The Julia Phillips memoir was published on March 6, 1991. Jurassic Park was filmed from August to November of 1992. Story checks out. After he got what he asked for, he had the confidence to write the "What is It?" article...but he only published that article once enough time had gone by for Spielberg to not suspect Laura of being the leaker. 2003 is a peculiar year for the article to come out since it was the tenth anniversary of Jurassic Park's release.

reply

I bet she'd have a much different take if the genders were reversed. It's probably empowering or something. Susan Sarandon getting with Tim Robbins in Bull Durham is probably not a problem.

reply

OH sweet Jesus, get over it I'm sick of Pedowood actors/actresses apologizing for shit they did decades ago. Just tell the woke crowd to fuck off and move on with your career.

reply

The equation most used for most of MY life for the minimum socially exceptable age of older male/younger female is half plus 7.

For example a man of age of 50 to date a younger female is 25+7 = 32

If a man breaks this rule, he should expect some grief.

Laura Dern was 25 (filmed 1992 born 1967.. Neill was 44. The socially minimum age for Neill to have a relationship would be around 27.

So...she is correct, and not just spouting new woke BS.

reply

I've never seen this equation before. I've always figured ten years either way (once both parties are over 18) should not be frowned upon.

reply

Google "Half your age plus seven" and be surprised.

reply

Stupid rule. It means when I meet a woman today, she might be "too young" for me. When I meet the very same woman in 4 years - the age gap is exactly the same! - it becomes all off the sudden "appropriate"...

reply

The fact that there is an equation to calculate whether or not a relationship between two adults is "appropriate" or not just shows how batshit insane some people are. I wonder how they came up with it. Why is it +7 and not +6 or +8? How much thought was put into this? So if I'm 40, it's perfectly fine for me to date a 27 year old, but if she's 26 I'm a disgusting old pig. Welcome to the clown world.

reply

The equation is not new, it's has been around for ages.

It really matters most for high society types...so most of the users on this site need not worry.

reply

Great, a totally arbitrary equation. Real helpful. Not.

reply

It helped that she looked much older than 23. Honestly, I thought she was at least 30 in the movie.

Swap her with someone who actually looked that age and it's a very different movie. Imagine say Chloe Grace Moretz(25) who still looks extremely young, playing Sam Neil's bang buddy and 43 year old Golblum's crush! The audience would have been rooting for the T-rex to eat all those lecherous fucks in that scenario.

reply

She was 23? I honestly thought she was 35 and Neil was around 40 in Jurassic Park.
