Favourite Depardieu performances?

He is, of course, a hugely prolific actor and I couldn't hope to have seen close to all of his filmography, but my favourite roles of those I have seen are -

Get Out Your Handkerchiefs (1978) - warm, funny, bold... it won the Oscar in its day but nowadays the subject matter would make it a much harder sell. Hard to find, but well worth checking out.

The Last Metro (1980) - Riveting drama with Depardieu as one member of Catherine Deneuve's theatre troupe in Nazi occupied Paris.

Loulou (1980 - In which the brilliant Isabelle Huppert dumps her successful, attentive, attractive lover for podgy, workshy layabout Gerard.

Cyrano de Bergerac (1990) - an actor's dream and Depardieu seizes the role with gusto, wit and boundless charisma.

The Return of Martin Guerre (1982) - sad, haunting Medieval mystery with Depardieu and the wonderful Nathalie Baye on top form.

My American Uncle (1980) - fascinating characters and an intriguing if sometimes hard to follow blend of psychoanalysis and storytelling.

Jean de Florette (1986) - sentimental but irresistible tale of hunchbacked farmer Depardieu cheated by his scheming neighbours (Yves Montand, Daniel Auteuil). The score will be stuck in your head for days afterwards.

What are your favourites?
