Is it true?

I got into a discussion with some buddies in my fraternity who all swear that it's an 'inside secret' that Devito got away with murdering a girl sometime in the 90s? Can't find anything about this after googling it though.

Its not true, but Micheal Rappaport did though.

I actually came here to see if there were any threads about this. I heard a similar rumor years ago, and I probably would have forgotten all about it if weren't for the fact that I heard it yet again a few nights ago. Anyone know if there's anything to this?

My movie geek pals love retelling this obscure and frightening bit o trivia. The incident in question took place in the fall of '91 while Devito was preparing for his role as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin.

In a story that parallels the last days of Heath Ledger, Devito employed method acting techniques to reach a very dark place within himself. He booked wife Rhea Pearlman a hotel room in Slope Park for 3 months, sanctioned off a small corner of his apartment as his living space, built a makeshift fort from sofa cushions he called the Igloo, maintained a strict diet of canned sardines and grain alcohol and immersed himself in the teachings of Aleister Crowley.

So the story goes that one night he topped off his last bottle of Everclear and was heading on a liquor run, only he didn't see 9 year old Sally Kipchak trying to call her tabby out from underneath his Lincoln as he snapped into reverse. I'll save the graphic details out of respect but it was a gnarly spectacle (feel free to check your favorite gore sites for photos, sick bastards).

Long story short, he manages to pay off the girl's family to keep this incident from spilling to the public. Finishes up shooting Batman Returns. Cleans up his act. Invites the old lady back home. Puts down the Crowley in exchange for Roald Dahl and dedicates his screen adaptation of Matilda to Sally Kipchak and family.

This and other occurrences such as the 2012 Aurora theater shooting lead some critics to believe the Batman film franchise might be cursed. I personally couldn't make heads or tails of the "Schwarzaneggar, Silverstone, Chris O'Donnel found audio" imbroglio but I'm just glad our tale has a happy ending, as now I can watch my favorite fat midget bastard play the role of his lifetime (Frank in Always Sunny) syndicated on 5 networks daily.

my aforementioned buddies unearthed this poem that Devito wrote during his blue period. Poetry was a hobby he didn't stick with too long and we thank him for it, still it's dark and foreboding isn't it?

His structural assignment
broods heavily on the day's forecast
outcome which decries nearly all modes
of quality assessment
could he feel smell
or touch the impending sunrise?
would he hear tell
or ask the daybreak for its black milk
drunk at sundown falls to Germany your golden hair
Margarete

he writes
he writes well and with great fervor
the students roared
Celan returns from his hero's odyssey but nobody answered
the stairs creaking as an old secretary makes his way down
from an embarassing flight up
gabble hastily executed for all to laugh at
his notes are anger tucked beneath excitement
notes he stole from
me and Miss Mandible

he writes
he writes poor and with sallow indignation
the animals collapsed
Ionesco escapes the Bronx Zoo
so we all stood
quiet and calm as elephants make their way uptown
past the checks cashed liquor store and Popeye's
for the turnstiles carousels camshafts
let us drive all night until one of us
is crushed by his structural assignment

He tried to throw his momma from a train in 87, so it could be true. 
