Officially has retired

Today "Variety" announced that Mr Day-Lewis officially has retired from acting

He will promote his Paul Thomas Anderson film, "Phantom Thread," (to be released this winter) then retire to private life

Farewell to a tremendous talent and a great co-worker

He is 60 and doesn't want to end up like Robert De Niro

reply

De Niro ended up the way he did by his own admission. He obviously didn't want to end up with Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine esque roles for blockbuster movies, so he called it quits with those types of movies and instead went for supporting roles in quick cash grab comedies and occasionally small irrelevant roles in something that resembles a blockbuster like 'Limitless' where he only was in for the star factor.

You cannot compare that to DDL considering the type of movies he has been a part of and how sparse those movies has come the last 20 years.

farewell.

If he gets nostalgic, maybe he can try directing.

He is retiring to make a comeback later.

Noted actors only retire so they can ask for a doubling of salary for their next movies.
