valentine's story on leno?

Years ago, Willem was on a talk show (I think it may have been Leno) and he told the most beautiful story about having to walk the length of Manhattan in shoes that were too small because he'd spent his bus fare on a Valentine's Day gift. Does anyone remember this? How would I go about finding a video or a transcript of it? I've looked EVERYWHERE!
