Valentine's Day Story?

I've been looking for this for awhile but I'm wondering if maybe a Willem fan can help.

I saw an interview with Willem Dafoe years ago (2002 or so?). I'm thinking it was on Leno but I could be totally off-base. He told this story about when he was a struggling actor and he had to borrow someone else's shoes for an audition. The didn't fit and he realized after he auditioned that it was Valentine's Day so he spent the last of his money on flowers for his girlfriend. He had to walk all the way home in the ill-fitting shoes. It really choked me up.

I think of that story occasionally and I'd really like to see it again. Does anyone remember this or have a copy?
