Sonny & Cher: I Got You, Babe

Solo: Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves

reply

A number of songs come to mind. But just recently I heard one of her songs that I had forgotten about. I think the title is "Just Like Jessie James". Cher just knocks it out of the ballpark on that one! Either that or "The Way of Love".

I really like Just Like Jessie James. I really liked the Heart of Stone album. It also has If I Could Turn Back Time on it.

"Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" and "Love is a Gunman" from her very under-rated 1996 album "It's A Man's World".

reply

I love that album. 'Angel's Running' and 'What About The Moonlight' are also standouts.

The UK release is so much better than the USA release. If you don't have it - get it! Extra tracks and better mixes of some of the songs.

reply

We got the same version as the UK in Australia, so I was lucky!

Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) (1987 version)

Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) (1966 version)

If I Could Turn Back Time. Cher excels at pop anthems. “Words are like weapons, they can wound sometimes.”

Her 80s/90s rock-Cher stuff was my favourite - probably Heart of Stone or Jesse James.

I do like her vocoded gay-club material to an extent. Believe was killed by overexposure in Europe though.

Easily Dark Lady

oh the old duck has had some crackers in her time hasn’t she? I like The Beat Goes On, Bang Bang (the 60s original version not the fluffy-haired, turgid power ballad Bon Jovi fanboyed for her in the 80s), Dark Lady, I Found Someone, Heart of Stone, Love & Understanding... It’s a Man’s World is by far her best album, most songs on that I would class as favourites.

I can handle her 70s disco and 90s eurodisco in extremely small doses. Still mad at the bitch for cursing us with vocoder for the following 20 frickin years.

She’s a character though, bless her old g string
