a question for Jackie Chan fans

One of the reasons I like Jackie's action scenes so much is that he doesn't shake the camera, so you can Clearly see all that hard work. Is there anyone else who wishes cameras wouldn't shake, the more active an action scene gets, in others' movies?

reply

Agreed. Jackie's shots are very technical. Police Story end fight is just marvellous as you can see everything within each shot.

Sammo Hung is also good but he is always moving the camera. It's not shaky like today's standards and you can always follow the action clearly.

Unfortunately though, Police Story 2013 is shaky camera heavy. Fight scenes are still good but the rest of the film may give you nausea.

Man of Steel has to have one of the worst usages of shaky cam ever!

I'm one hundred percent behind you. I hate when they shake the camera. I could kill for it! They call it realistic, I call them incompetent a$$holes. There were movies I refused to watch because everybody said it had shaky camera movements. There were other movies I had no choice but to fast forward the action parts because of the very same reason. And the rest were not so good either.

I like Sammo's style too. Sometimes he does use too many camera moves, but sometimes Jackie is too static as well! I'd say their average would be the perfect mix. For instance the final countdown in the steel mill in Drunken Master 2... the first part of it, when Jackie isn't drunk yet, is perfect as far as camera movements and cuts goes. It's classic, yet modern. It's evergreen, while the first Police Story's cinematography is outdated. Classic, and brilliant on it's own right, but outdated. Police Story II. playground fight is still not outdated - it's probably as evergreen as the Drunken Master II. fight mentioned above.
