Favorite Performance? (Besides Alfred)

For me, it's Robert Elliott from Dressed to Kill.

Scrooge from The Muppet Christmas Carol

reply

He's got some great ones....loved him as Cutter in The Prestige. A lesser seen one but also very good was his portrayal of Inspector Frederick Abberline in the Jack the Ripper miniseries.

Get Carter

Off hand Second Hand Lions is A favorite. Difficult to pick THE favorite

reply

Also, The man who would be king

reply

I loved him in Secondhand lions! Between him and Robert Duvall, they were the pair of uncles I wished I had had!

reply

Alfred? Alfred wouldn't make my top ten even if that role were in the mix!

Alfie (Alfie)
Eliot (Hannah and Her Sisters)
Scrooge (Muppets Christmas Carol)
Carter (Get Carter)
Jasper (Children of Men)
Milo (Sleuth)
Lawrence (Dirty, Rotten Scoundrels)
Charlie (The Italian Job)
Bromhead (Zulu)
Garth (Secondhand Lions)

And I haven't even seen his famous spy role of Harry Palmer yet!

Don't get me wrong, he does just dandy as Alfred, but he's turned in so many performances far better than the Batler of Wayne Mansion.

reply

Seriously, would anybody select Alfred as the highlight of the great Michael Caine’s long and illustrious career?

The Man Who Would Be King or Get Carter are my favourite Caine films but I think The Quiet American may be his greatest performance.

reply

Nobody would, unless they've only seen him in the Nolan films.

It would have to be the roles that got him into the Nolan films.

Get Carter.
Italian Job.
Alfie.
Jaws 4. (joke)

and maybe Educating Rita

reply

Shiner, Play Dirty and Pulp stand out to me.

reply

Harry Palmer
