Just want to say thanks for playing Alfred Pennyworth

Even though his screen time in The Dark Knight Rises was the least out of all 3, it was nothing short of powerful and heart felt. You could really feel the pain he was feeling and expressing. He truly is one of the greatest actors alive.

reply

Absolutely, his scenes were so powerful he is such an amazing actor.

reply

He did a brilliant job

reply

His scenes were heartbreaking. He is one fantastic actor. I love how Nolan got these incredible actors to play roles that previously had people that were completely unmemorable. He cast Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon, and in the previous franchise, it was played by some random fat guy nobody liked. The same with Alfred.

reply

Came here to say this. The trilogy wouldn't be the same without him.

reply

Some random fat guy nobody liked? Someone ought to teach you the value of being respectful.

Gordon was played by the late Pat Hingle. A superb character actor and a true professional who did some very competent work with the material he was given.

And Alfred was played by the late Michael Gough. Another great professional, who bore an even greater resemblance to the Alfred from the comics, and certainly had the talent to pull the character off.

reply

My apologies, I was only joking. I'm sure he's an adequate actor, I just found Nolan's casting choices to be far superior and helped bring a real humanity to the films.

reply

Fair enough, I guess.

Agreed on Gary Oldman as Gordon. Not so much on Caine as Alfred, though. Having said that, his best take on Alfred was probably in this last film.

reply

I've only seen Michael Gough in the four Batman films, in which he did an adequate job as Alfred. The directors didn't give him a whole lot to work with. But if you're talking physically, yes, Gough looked nearly exactly like his comic book counter-part.
