Almost completely agree; I would've ranked Sean Penn higher though.

I am vengeance. I am the night. I AM BATMAN!!
I'm the best at what I do

reply

1. Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will Be Blood (clear winner there without a doubt)
2. Sean Penn, Mystic River (very well deserved win. Jude Law was very close behind him though for Cold Mountain)
3. Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart
4. Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Capote (though I think Heath Ledger should have won for Brokeback Mountain)
5. Forest Whitaker, The Last King of Scotland
6. Sean Penn, Milk (Rourke definitely should have won but still a great performance by Penn)
7. Russell Crowe, Gladiator
8. Jamie Foxx, Ray (pretty good impersonation but I thought he was over-rated. He only won cos he played a real life dead guy who accomplished alot despite a disability. I thought Clint Eastwood should have won for Million Dollar Baby)
9. Denzel Washington, Training Day
10. Adrien Brody, The Pianist (a performance I found over-rated but maybe I should just watch it again. I would have been happy with Daniel Day Lewis or Jack Nicholson winning)

when i think of 'the best' i think of two things:
1) who immediately comes to mind when i say "I'll never forget__________ in _______." An image, a presence,a force, that glows in my memory. and

2) the performance given the difficulty of the role and how multi-faceted it was

with those as my guiding principles, my list is:

1 Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Capote
2 Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will Be Blood
3 Sean Penn, Milk
4 Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart
5 Adrien Brody, The Pianist

the others in no particular order:
Sean Penn, Mystic River
Forest Whitaker, The Last King of Scotland
Russell Crowe, Gladiator
Jamie Foxx, Ray
Denzel Washington, Training Day

The way to have what we want
Is to share what we have.

1. Forest Whitaker, The Last King of Scotland (Terribly overrated performance)
2. Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will Be Blood (Agree, Best Performance of that year)
3. Jamie Foxx, Ray (an absolute JOKE winning)
4. Sean Penn, Mystic River (Bill Murray deserved it)
5. Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Capote (Joaquin Phoenix deserved it)
6. Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart (Agree!)
7. Denzel Washington, Training Day (Russell Crowe should have won)
8. Russel Crowe, Gladiator (Ed Harris should have won)
9. Adrien Brody, The Pianist (Daniel Day-Lewis deserved it)
10. Sean Penn, Milk (Rourke was robbed)

reply

Wow...Guess I'm a little off with most of you. I wouldn't call myself anywhere near a Russell Crowe fangirl but his turn as Maximus is one of my top favorite performances ever.

1. Russell Crowe, Gladiator
2. Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will Be Blood (although Depp was his best as Todd)
3. Sean Penn, Mystic River
4. Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart
5. Forest Whitaker, The Last King of Scotland
6. Denzel Washington, Training Day (Crowe was better)

9. Jamie Foxx, Ray (got the hype but I have a hard time with Foxx himself)
10. Hoffman, Capote (probably biased because Phoenix as Cash is also one of my all time favorite and I think he was completely and utterly robbed)

Never saw The Pianist or Milk so I can't really rate those performances but I can't believe anyone outperformed Rourke that year and Day-Lewis was really good in Gangs of New York also.

Well, my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle.
