I miss him

Labyrinth is on TV right now and it’s making me realise how much I miss this beautiful freak.

A true original, too good to even be copied let alone equaled.

I think I might go listen to Hunky Dory.

He was a cool dude and made some great music.

One of the greatest singer-songwriters ever. Can’t believe it’s been four years since he left us so shockingly.

I honestly thought he would live forever. I did not realize how important he was to me till he died. I never thought of myself as a fan of his till he died. Then I realized I had always appreciated him. He is was a true pop culture visionary. He instantly grasped the importance of the internet. He instinctively knew the importance of reinventing oneself, like your latest Instagram and YouTube and Facebook stories and postings. He saw that Pop Heroes were no longer only Performers. They were/are BRANDS. He pioneered the Protean branding strategy: David Bowie (nee Jones), Ziggy Stardust, The Thin White Duke. Geez, if you try to answer the question, Who is the most defining personality in all of modern pop culture?, Bowie is up there with Einstein, Elvis, The Beatles, Andy Warhol and maybe Aaron Spelling. The man had Fred Astaire-level style. He also had dignity, poise, class, sex appeal, creativity and foresight. Is he my favorite celeb? No. My favorite artist? Not even close. None of those answers precludes me having the enormous respect and admiration that I do for Bowie’s accomplishments. Mozart’s not my favorite composer, either, but I know who and what he was.

It actually kinda makes me kinda sad when people say they’re not into him or only like a few of his songs. Like what are they listening to that’s better?

reply

I miss him too. Nice guy he was.
