Which of his

Lesser known songs do you really like? I really like the bewlay brothers, in the heat of the morning, move on, and up the hill backwards. I thought of this cause a girl I know only likes his most famous songs.

And also lady stardust, we are hungry men, and one shot.

New Killer Star is pretty awesome too!

Running Gun Blues.

reply

Bombers
Thru These Architects Eyes
Strangers When We Meet
Always Crashing in the Same Car
Looking for Satellites

reply

Oh my god I love Bombers! Such a masterpiece!

reply

Those other 4 are pretty awesome too I gotta say!

reply

I guess by lesser known you mean not the big hits, real Bowie fanatics would know these.
Karma Man
Wild-Eyed Boy from Freecloud
Saviour Machine
Soul Love
We Are the Dead
Win
Stay
Art Decade
Blackout
Move on
I’m Deranged
Afraid
The Loneliest Guy

reply

I agree, most of those are excellent! Especially the first 5 you listed!

reply

It's No Game (Part 1)
Glass Spider
Segue - Ramona A. Stone / I Am With Name
The Laughing Gnome :)
Underground (It may have been a single but its rarely on any best of albums)

reply

Yeah those are all good ones :)

Mr. Gravedigger from his first album is a masterpiece.
We Are Hungry Men from the first album is also great, and an early sci-fi Bowie song.
Saviour Machine is another sci-fi great.
His cover of the Pixie's Cactus always grabbed me on Heathen
Everyone Says Hi, also off of Heathen, has always seemed so, so very sad to me. It's really touching.

reply

I’m afraid of Americans

reply

Oh my lord those first 3 you named are so awesome!

reply

Mr. Gravedigger is such a phenomenon. First album out of the gate and Bowie was like, "I think I'll just quietly challenge what a song even is..." It's a revelation. It's like a short story in four minutes, but also a poem, but also an audio drama...

reply

I don't know about his lesser known songs, but my favorites:

Space Oddity
Fame
Let's Dance
Changes

reply

Have you listened to any of his lesser known songs now?

reply

No.

reply

How about now?

reply

There's a brilliant version of Let's Dance in this set (time signature: 6:15):

It's also got some great versions of "Heroes" and China Girl, but I think Let's Dance in particular stands out because it's such a heavily-produced pop number on the album version that hearing this stripped down version puts it into a totally different realm.
