She was overwhelmed by her win--not strange nor bizarre!

I don't think that Ms. Bisset expected her win either so was unprepared to give a speech. She was also seated very far from the stage so it took her a very long time to get there to accept the award. It looked very crowded at the Beverly Hilton; perhaps there should be a better effort to see that nominees can get to the stage quickly and that they have some sort of basic acceptance speech just in case.

I don't think this will happen again.

I felt very uncomfortable but stirred deeply by her raw humanity she showed. Like you say, she's been around forever, she's a cornerstone in Hollywood and she never expected to ever win anything.

Yes she appeared overwhelmed. I'm so happy for her. She's long overdue when it comes to awards and nominations. She's a real classy lady.

really so true, and who the hell cares if she was drunk or on some prescriptions anyway? 80% of all the so called actors there were drinking heavily, heck they even flaunt it onstage. emma whats her name comes out on stage with a martini, the two hosts guzzling wine as they announce awards, etc

I read one guy here saying she looked so old, her hair looked "brittle" hello guy she is 69 but even still she looked absolutely fabulous and not just "for her age"

just plain still pretty and i'm 16 years younger than her and never thought I would say that about a 70 year old! but she pulls it off

I wonder what would have been the reaction of the general public if such a speech had been made by some actress younger than 40? I think that most of the comments would start with the phrase "young people of today...".

I agree. I know nothing about her and I only looked her up after SNL made fun of her. I watched the video of her name being called and her walk to the podium and her acceptance speech. She just looked like she didn't expect it. She looked very thrown off and her seat was really far away. It took her a minute to get up after her name was called because she was shocked and taken back by her name being called. I think everyone is making a huge deal out of it for no reason. She seemed like a real person who wasn't expecting to win and didn't have a speech prepared.

First, I must say that I have been a huge fan of Jacqueline's since "Airport"
(1970), so, short of her committing murder, I can't bring myself to be too hard
on her.

Yes, I did think her speech was unusual and bit strange. I think that this was
due to a number of factors:

1. She has never won much of anything (boo!) and was genuinely shocked when her
name was called. She was truly overwhelmed.
2. She was reading something and not really paying attention to the proceedings
at that point. (Yes, maybe she should have been paying attention---)
3. In an interview long ago, she did admit to getting a little drunk at times.
One particular incident she admitted to:
"Before shooting the scene in "Airport" where I slapped Helen Hayes. I'm
afraid
that I had had too many martinis for lunch, and didn't realize that I
slapped Helen as hard as I did." Alcohol affects people in different ways.
She may have a low tolerance.

I daresay that she would probably admit now that she could have handled the
situation better. But, haven't we all done things that we wish could go back
and do over if we were able?
