She's been a uniquely attractive woman for many years, but I've been looking at her closely on Animal Kingdom - and part of the reason she looks bad now is she REALLY lacks flesh under the skin on her face.
If she gained maybe 10 lbs, her face would look MUCH better.
Before you criticize my opinion - watch her on the show for a while and tell me I'm wrong.

shareI agree with you. She is too thin and has had too much plastic surgery. She is a great actor but she looks terrible. And the haircut does not help.
I think as a woman ages, she looks better a bit heavier. The skinny thing makes a woman look haggard.
Yes, Ellen is at that age where skinny makes the aging look worse. She needs to gain at least 15-20 pounds or more and then hit the gym to tone it on. Yeah, she might lose some looks on the nose and so forth but will more than make up for that in the butt and thighs. I suppose that MAYBE her look for the show could be explained away by hard drug use into current times for the character.
shareYup. And if you want to see REALLY scary - keep an eye out for her hands. If they show her hands again in a closeup you will swear that she is 75 or 80.

But next to those husky ripped guys on the show who play her sons, she looks absolutely wiry and her appearance makes her look as if she would be much less powerful than the character she portrays.
I think in real life, those guys would never assign so much power to her and be so fearful of such a small woman even if she was their mother. When she was face to face with one of her sons, I laughed.
What's her power over those strong guys? In real life they would tell her to back the f off and go take a nap.
The sons are supposed to be creatively challenged which means they need a brain to cook up the schemes. Which seems to be a plot point with the new season in that the boys are looking to go alone and will presumably fail.

I guess the fact that her daughter had a teenage son says she's fairly old.
And I believe this show is based on an Australian show or real life characters. If this is a copy of the Australian show - how old was the mom in relation to the boys, and I assume she was not a tiny little weak thing.
I won't watch it cause she looks like one of those rich old ladies who never worked a day in her life. The type to hire someone to carry her dog out the car type. Her excessive face lift, the way she talks, the way she carries her self, the botox lips, all annoy the hell out of me. Just because she's in it, I would skip the show.
