MY BODYGUARD co-star

Fate and Destiny go hand-in-hand to deal different cards to people. Strangest thing is how some people thought destined for greatness don't make it and those not thought of greatness do reach it, achieve it, or have it dropped into their laps.

MY BODYGUARD, a popular, teen movie that came out of no-where in 1979-80 to become a blockbuster hit, featured two, then unknown youth actors, Chris Makepeace (the main actor) and Adam Baldwin (the supporting actor, the bodyguard). Chris Makepeace starred in another mild comedy hit with Bill Murray at the same time. People thought the cute, sweet kid, Chris Makepeace, would go on to bigger and better. But Chris Makepeace was still a child actor and when he reached adulthood very soon, his acting career stalled quickly. He had a very good dramatic role in CAPTIVE HEARTS (1986), which showed his good acting talent, but his Hollywood acting career flatlined.

Adam Baldwin got off to a slow start. After apparently falling into near-obscurity after MY BODYGUARD, Baldwin reappeared ten years later in small acting roles on television but like a slow train that takes a long time to pick up speed, Baldwin kept at it and his Hollywood career kept him in steady employment even if he has not yet hit it big, still he keeps showing up in mainstream television series. Bravo for Baldwin. The question is, did Hollywood success result from his struggle to attain it, or did it drop into his lap? I think his struggle and perseverance paid off in finally letting Hollywood success drop into his hands.

Oddly enough, I looked up My Bodyguard tonight because of American Dad (btw, the other movie Chris Makepeace was in was Meatballs).

At the time of my post I had a mental block on the movie name, MEATBALLS. Why I had the mental block is inexplicable. MEATBALLS is one of my sentimental, nostalgic favorites. It evokes pre-teen, teen, and young adult memories of carefree youth with dreams of how youth could have been among friends and caring young adults. I still watch MEATBALLS from time to time, no matter how corny and cheesy MEATBALLS has grown over the years.
