In The Hobbit

Did anyone else realise he made a cameo appearance at the beginning of An Unexpected Journey when Bilbo was at the market (about 17 minutes in)? I had to rewind it a couple of times to check it was really him, because technically Sam wasn't even meant to be alive yet at that time. He doesn't seem to have been credited for it though.

Sorry but that is not Sean Astin. It's someone with a very slight resemblance to Sean. Sean has done NO filming for The Hobbit and has not been in New Zealand for several years.

Sean, his wife Christine and daughter Alexandra (who played Elanor Gamgee in Return of the King) were at the premiere of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug last month in LA. Very cool then and now photo here:

Does STTW_Fan mean the extended version of An Unexpected Journey? If so, then that would be the only time one would be able to spot that hobbit that looks ALOT like Samwise The Brave. I saw an article about this some months back questioning about this hobbit holding a child asking if this was Sam or his dad the Old Gaffer.

Personally, book-wise, Frodo is the oldest outta four hobbits (with Pippin being the youngest) and I think that hobbit, whoever it was, might be Sam's grandfather because if that was really Samwise himself 60 years earlier, he would of been much more older than Frodo, Pippin and Merry by now.
