Why does he do so many Christian movies?

Is he a religious man?

Because it's a paycheck. Past-their-prime actors usually wind up doing Lifetime movies, Faith-based films, or guest starring on TV shows.

He isn't really a leading man anymore: short, stocky, average looks. He still gets work, so more power to him.

I watched a video game documentary recently that he narrated.

He was never really a leading man anyways. He got lucky with LOTR. But he's an actor who belongs in the 80s and 90s.

I've seen a few interviews where he talks about religion and about being a Christian..don't really know what to make of that to be honest.

His movies as of late have all been pretty mediocre. They're all either lifetime or voice actor work. But yeah, more power to him. A job is a job, he's still actively getting roles.

Not sure if he's been brought up but Sean Astin is a notorious pain in the ass.

Says a lot how Jackson & Co. went out of their way to bring back as many of the Lord of the Rings actors back for Hobbit but Astin (clearly the most logical inclusion for wrap around scenes to open and close the trilogy) was nowhere to be found.

Just listen to him in the LOTR Extended Edition commentaries. He is clearly one of those "So, Peter, I know my character is just trying to survive these rocks and the ring and Gollum, but I am just not getting into Sam's headspace. These pages don't connect to his desire to go back to the Shire. Does he just forget about his dad?"

I always thought it was weird that Ashton had such a big part in 50 First Dates and never became a Sandler regular like Buscemi, Shaq, or even fucking Dave Mathews. He seemed to be the exact level of super-famous but not also kinda not-a-big-deal like those guys. Sounds like it was his horrible personality that got him kicked off the team.

Thanks for sharing these. Interesting reading. Love Astin and Samwise is my favorite movie character of all time, but yeesh.

He was pretty good in 'the strain' which is recent, but then again i tried to watch cabin fever 3 and that was terrible so maybe he just takes on too maybe jobs and doesnt realise which ones will be *beep*

How does that answer the question? "He's a Christian." Hmm. Lots of actors are Christian, and some have even murdered on screen, raped on screen, and done evil on screen. What does that have to do with their religion in real life?

For a "retired teacher," you're painfully naive.

Yes, he is a Christian and he lives it rather well. He doesn't talk about it for fame or attention but quietly lives a very commendable life by example to others...just as any good person of faith would emulate. To this end, he celebrates his faith with his passion of acting; what could be better than that?

Good for him.
