LOTR Standout

With the release of The Hobbit, I just re-watched the LOTR films (this time in the extended cut) after a good 9 years. To be honest, I didn't remember a lot of the details but I do remember liking Samwise Gamgee a lot and quite a few of the pivotal scenes.

With this second viewing, I've developed a far, far greater appreciation for the series and I must say, a lot of it has to do with Sean Astin's performance as Samwise Gamgee. While the entire cast was superb, he was definitely the stand out performance. I think what makes this epic resonate is the relentless camaraderie between the fellowship, especially the bond between the four hobbits.

Sam is an incredible character in every way, and I cannot imagine a more perfect portrayal of the role. I'm not sure if we saw quite the same level of development from any of the other characters, but Sean definitely shone in the role. I must say, he was the only one that brought me to tears again and again throughout the films. Definitely one of my favourite characters/portrayals of all time.

Bravo Mr. Astin, this one's to you!

You should check out Toy Soldiers if you haven't already.

I agree, he was amazing in Lord of the Rings, how he wasn’t nominated for “Best Supporting Actor” for Return of the King is beyond me, great performance.

I agree. looking back now Astin comes to the forefront while Viggo Mortensen goes to to the back. I mean hes passable just Viggo is so passive, and uncharismatic. I cant remember if Aragon was written that way he just seems so Blaahh
