Certainly a low point for him, but have to take it in context. He is Hollywood (and bows down to those Hollywood gods), was not well educated on this particular subject, and made an ill-fated attempt to challenge Sam Supergenius Harris on one of the topics he is very well versed in. If I didn't know what Islam is really all about, I might have sympathized with his point of view, but I (and I am guessing you) see Islam through the same lens that Sam Harris does. I am guessing after that embarrassment, he has researched it further and hopefully has a more informed point of view.

It kinda is the mother of bad ideas in the sense there is rarely any freedom for women, they still don't like gays in most Islamic states and would gladly throw them off a roof if they could, stoning is allowed or public execution by hanging and such. There is a lot of backwardness with Islam. I mean look at Afghanistan. We're leaving that crap hole and it's already devolving back into primal age. Same thing happened to Iraq after we left there and the Lybia situation or Lebanon. Unless you're a heavy handed dictator or authoritative government, they'll go animalistic. Just look at the freedom scale for the Middle Eastern countries and you'll see the bigger picture. They take religion to a way whole nother level like the cult Christians do.
