Has Die Hard 6 been cancelled?

Not heard anything about it for ages....and do you all think Fox have finally listened to the fans and will go to old school DH considering DH5 was not as successfull as the other films in the franchise?

reply

I would hope so. I love Die Hard 1 and 3 (2 is okay), but the attempted sequels in 2007 and 2013 were embarrassments to the franchise. It's best just to give the series a decent burial now as it's already been ruined.

If they do make another one, they need to pretend that 4 and 5 never happened and actually bring back some characters from the original films so that it actually feels like a Die Hard film.

reply

I hope so. They need to let this franchise die.

Die Hard will always be a trilogy. No sense in trying to fight it anymore after those last two pieces of crap.

I am not even that crazy about the last two films of the trilogy. They are OK action films, but nowhere near the masterpiece of action cinema that Die Hard was. One reason:Thw whole point of Die Hard was that McClain was a ordinary guy,an off duty cop who gets cought up in a terrible situation against incredibl odds. All the sequels lose that, and make McClain into James Bond Jr. Totally lost the Die Hard vibe. The second one totally lost that;that third one got it back intermittently;the fourth and fifth film are beneath contempt.

Don't know if it's the same movie mentioned here but now they are talking about a prequel called "McClane". Supposedly it tell s the story of the young insolent John, then the actions of his past catches up to him in the present.

reply

Haven't there have been enough "Die Hard" movies made?

reply

So much for the ordinary man overcoming incredible odds. The prequel will have to be very different from the superhero turn which slowly cemented itself since the sequels.

They're definitely moving forward with that prequel/sequel idea. Supposed to have two stories, one with a young McClane, one with Old Man McClane, likely tying together with some villain plot. Given this story structure, I don't see how the story can be anything but more James Bond than ever. A man fated to conflict rather than a good cop having a bad day.

reply

Then it's more important than ever for the antagonist to bring something fresh to the table.

I was bitching about Die Hard the other day. I love the movies. Even the dumb ones. I just wish they had invented a different character for Bruce to play tough guy with. I think the Die Hard series took a misstep when they veered away from the christmas theme and should have leaned into it. Every single Die Hard should have been another holiday from hell for our plucky hero. They should have been a little tongue in cheek and absurd, but so violent and action packed nobody cared. It's okay to know you're watching a movie that isn't very realistic and have fun with it.
