Think of all the bs he avoided...

Im not saying this to alarm anyone who cares about me, I fully intend to keep on living for years to come. Robin avoided Trump, Covid-19 and the agony of getting very old and succumbing to any number of horrifying conditions that he may have faced such as dementia or ALS, cancer etc. I miss Robin and the joy he brought to the world but in some ways he had the right idea checking out early.

Williams had both parkinsons and lewy body dementia. His suicide, however driven, was basically a mercy killing. Doesn't taint my view of his career in the least.

reply

Thanks for looking that up. When it happened I recall reading he had something like the 2 conditions you mentioned. I have to agree, there's nothing romantic about facing that all the way to the end. If you want to that's your decision. It's sucks how our society expects people to suffer out if ignorance and fear. "He took the easy way out..." Drives me nuts.

reply

I thought the medical examiner completely ruled out parkinsons and stated he had signs only of Diffuse Lewy body disease. The only thing that may have been a problem was that because he was misdiagnosed with parkinsons and not DLBD, that he was prescribed some medications for the anxiety he was experiencing that would have been a big no no for someone with DLBD because it would have had a potential to cause some mental issues that included an increase in suicidal thoughts. It is entirely possible that had he not been given the anti-anxiety meds he might not have decided to take himself out. The problem is that by missing the DLBD he and his family were unaware of a lot of the mental problems he would have been expected to confront from it.

I've thinking about Robin and a bunch of the influential celebs that have died in the last few years. How we lost a huge batch of em all at once. They all got out while the gettin was good.

reply

And think of all the wonderful things he will miss when this dark period is over.

reply

yeah, Trump = Hitler.

You people are so pathetic.

reply

Not nearly as bad as responsible-for -countless-millions-dead Hitler.

If you know nothing about Covid-19 and medical science why not keep your mouth shut when on the world stage. He comes off as such an uninformed, uninterested buffoon. Can we agree on that at least, thst Trump is embarrassing to watch far too often.

reply

You can always not watch him. That is an option.

reply

Yeah no shiz, and I try. But should I have to tune out my president? I don't think it's a good thing to be disengaged from my democracy.

reply

On an objective scale, how much better is the alternative?

reply

You wouldn't be. Listen to news doesn't make you engaged in democracy. Not Voting makes you disengaged.

reply

Havnt missed an election yet.

reply

Good. Then turn off the BS and find something better to do than complain about Trump. If you dislike the guy, don't waste your time on him.

reply

I get what you are saying but apart from his illness those other things are not THAT terrible and surely no reason to off yourself, Yes Trump is a moron and easily the dumbest US president in history but not on the level of any of those truly evil leaders of the Past (Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot) and as for COVID it is bad but when it comes to pandemics its rather weak.

But do I understand why he did it and I likely would do the same when faced with dementia and Parkinson. and I sure miss him a lot :(

reply

don't kill yourself bro... life is worth living...

don't be a pussy...

reply

No one here's saying they're going to kill themselves. Sometimes people who do are pussies, sometimes it's unfortunate as well as understandable.

reply

I think more along the lines of The Stranger by Camus...

The universe is indifferent to us with viruses, political theatre, war, etc... and personal tragedy like disease and other suffering that is part of death... It is up to us to give ourselves purpose, to create meaning for ourselves and one another while we are alive... This is liberating and life affirming... To ... rage against the dying of the light as the poem goes...

reply

I like that Camus quote thanks for sharing. I would strive to rage against the dying light as well. Everyone should be allowed to who is willing and able. There should be a choice.

reply

You're welcome. Just to be clear (my writing style online can be confusing). The "rage against the dying of the light" quote is from Dylan Thomas, the Welsh poet.

Camus wrote about the idea of facing death... the idea that recognising our mortality is important so that we can either realise the absurdity of life without falling into dispair, or alternatively we can create our own meaning and our own purpose.

The Stranger is a great novel. It's very short, yet it makes his ideas about life being worthwhile tangible.

reply

i hope he gets the mental health help he needs

reply

What an odd post. Checking out early is NEVER better than living. NEVER! There's always gonna be pros and cons to life. #45 and Covid just happen to be an obstacle that we deal with. I know he had issues, but my mind can't wrap itself around suicide. Get help and hang on.

reply

There's no one here who's written anything about needing help and being currently suicidal. And being 100% certain that checking out early is never better than living is an uninformed opinion.

reply

#45 will soon be #46, you can bet on that

reply

They screamed at the sky in 2016. Hope they don't do something really stupid in 2020.

reply

hopefully they'll all move to Canada

reply

the land of the sane

reply

they'll love the lack of freedom of speech up there!

reply

i never experienced it.

reply

Canada is weird. I grew up there and the whole time I lived there it felt like a great place. It wasn't until I moved to the USA that I learned what a really free country was all about, and what I had been missing. Up in Canada you only are allowed to do and to have what the Government lets you have, and it's a pretty limited list and you pay taxes through the nose for it. Canada has also thrown away the very valuable true Canadian traditions, history, and culture in favor of their Government-enforced policy of "Multiculturalism". Canada also has a vastly inflated impression of its importance in the global theater. After moving away, I learned that Canada is basically a joke told by a 2nd rate comedian on the world stage. As an independent country, Canada exists only due to the good graces of the USA.

reply

🎶BLAME CANADA...BLAME CANADA...BLAME CANADA🎶

reply

this notion that america is the only free country in the world is nonsense. canada doesn't have the economic underclass that america has. americans have the right to be poor and to shoot each other in mass numbers and go bankrupt because they get sick.

reply

And Canadians have the right to foot the bill for all their freeloaders AND THEY BETTER SMILE while they do it, they have the right to jump through endless impossible hoops to buy a firearm they can basically only admire in the comfort of their own home, they also have the right to wait long and potentially lethal amounts of time for urgent medical care. They also have the right to lose custody of their children to the government if the government decides they are not raising them to approved standards. And to go to prison if the government does not approve of their speech.

reply

all of this is untrue.

reply

Just saying it's untrue doesn't make it so. The onus is on you to disprove it.

reply

Wouldn't he just stay #45 and whoever's after him would be #46.

reply

he'll probably wind up being #47 as well,
TRUMP2026

reply

In order for that to happen he'd have to lose to Biden in the fall, then in 4 years run again and win.

reply

#45 46 & 47!!

reply

Williams 'avoided' Trump because he checked himself out in the middle of your wonderful (dys)utopian Obama era. Hey, maybe that had something do do with his decision? He probably thought it would be 2 more years of Barry then 8 of Hillary. Perfectly understandable reason for ending it all.

reply

Wasn't a utopia or dystopia for me. And yes that's one of many possible reasons he might have had for offing himself, we'll never know.
