The World According To Garp (1982) is a underrated film and I always love to see Williams act serious cause he's a fantastic actor as well as a comedian.

Cadillac Man (1990) is a fun little film with great double act between Williams and Tim Robbins. I'm shocked it has a 5.7 on IMDB.

I agree with Cadillac Man. Very funny movie.

I've often thought about watching Cadillac Man. Since you and Jack green light it, I'll give it a go.

reply

You should it's a fun little film and him and Robbins have great fun. It's not a lost classic or anything but it's better then the rating it has on IMDB.

I don't really understand why "World According to Garp" seems to have been forgotten over the years. I never see it on TV or offered on streaming services. John Irving's book was a huge bestseller in the 70's and explored common Baby Boomer experiences. It has wonderful performances especially from Glenn Close and John Lithgow. It's not my favorite performance by Williams, though. He's too passive and low-key in it but that's probably the way it was meant to be played. Robin going into wild improvised riffs as in "Mork & Mindy" would have been horribly out of place. I hope more people will discover it.

It's a film that has aged pretty well. I think that's why I love Williams performance in it,it's understated. Agree with Lithgow and Close been brilliant in it. It's a wonderful little film, the type a big studio wouldn't make today. Criterion Collection should look into releasing it. It's one of William's best films imo and such a ballsy film to make as his first film as the "Mork and Mindy guy".

Don't forget Popeye which predated Garp by two years! As Ive gotten older, I've come to appreciate Williams in that one in bringing a cartoon character to life. It's an imaginative performance.

reply

Really shows his talent as an actor, being able to play that kind of character.

I'd say One Hour Photo, his best serious role. He's at his best when he plays villains. World's Greatest Dad is really good too.

reply

I don't know how it really "rates" on average but it seems that Awakenings gets little attention for his work. My favorite Robin Williams film and role.

reply

He has way too many.
I once spoke to a friend who didnt even know he was an actor and thought he was mostly a comedian. I was so offended by that.

Dont know why but Good Will Hunting keeps coming to mind.

reply

He won the Oscar for GWH, though. And it launched both Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's careers. Not exactly an underrated movie.

reply

I know. I went by performance and though it is an award winner. I cant help to feel his performance was underrated. Most.

reply

The Survivors and Cadillac Man.

I've watched The Survivors 50 times. ESTIMATE

reply

It's not really a top ten film at all, but I remember enjoying Bicentennial Man, as weird as it is.

One Hour Photo. It was lambasted as this shitty drama that made zero sense when it first came out, and I thought I was the only one who liked it back in 2002. Now, though, I think the film is slowly starting to be revered as a great movie.
