Robin Williams- one of a kind

You say his name and it brings a smile- his humor, which I feel his best was during interviews when the true duality-one moment serious Julliard alumnus the next minute flying-verbally and often physically and I defy anyone not to be rolling on the floor with tears of laughter streaming down their face!
But when it comes to acting-yes there are countless timeless comedies starting with Mork and continuing through Mrs Doubtfire and on-for me though I always think of Dead Poet's Society(still wonder tragically how many parents watch it and don't get it!)and Good Will Hunting! If you have never seen it and only have time to watch one scene-where he's explaining to Matt Damon what he "knows" and what he "really doesn't " because in that speech you see someone who went into the depth of his soul and that's something that can be taught or even learned from experience- that is a gift of which we were privileged to be the recipients for a far too brief period.
I must add my appreciation for the quality of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon for the words but especially Matt, who, while the tears were visible, to sit so solemnly still and allow the experience to wash over him and out to us in the audience.
There are many labels placed on actors- award-winners, legends- but there was is and will never be another-
Robin Williams

Couldn't agree more, he was the quintessential spark of magic in so many moments, on and off screen. RIP.

He had two shticks: manic and sappy. Sometimes, he mixed the two, like in Mrs. Doubtfire. Look at him in Dead Poet's Society...sappy and dewy-eyed in every scene. Eventually, he started adding psychotic to the mix, but he probably was actually becoming psychotic, by that point.

Overblown talent whose ability to spout gibberish during stand-ups apparently made him a comic genius in some people's eyes. His last television show was a flop, so all his fans couldn't even support that.

Besides, when he was young, Williams could get away with the craziness. When he was old, he was old first and crazy second. Just didn't work anymore.

Yes, other than his foul mouthed stand up.
