Why must Avatar supporters use the "gender card" to explain why their film lost? Maybe they should look at the fact that James "I'm king of the world" Cameron is almost universally despised in Hollywood. Maybe they should consider the possibility that the academy didn't buy into the bloated hype-machine that is Avatar. No, "breasts" is the only reason they can think of. Very sad.

Sigourney said that the reason why James Cameron lost the Oscar to Kathryn Bigelow was because he didn't have any breasts. In other words, she was crying reverse sexism (which you don't see a woman do very often).
shareSigourney was just making the point that Hurt Locker is now seen as fashionable and did not the deserved to win the Oscar. Come on for someone to direct and deliver Avatar of course Cameron should have won. It was beautiful and amazing. A new cinematic experience.
Sigourney is not saying that women shouldn't win, she is just saying that Hurt Locker has just been lucky to get so much acclaim after the luke warm reviews and that no one went to see it at the cinema and only has been seen now due to all this hype. Plus its directed by a woman, lets make her win the Oscar as one hasn't yet, ....but wait just a minute she just so happens to be the ex-wife of Cameron, strange?!?!?!

Her first mistake was equating mainstream popularity to actual talent! She assumes that just because Avatar is the most successful movie ever made, it should get all the awards. By that logic, movies like Spiderman and Batman should win Oscars too.
And her second mistake was forgetting that Jane Campion and Sofia Coppola didn't win Oscars for Best Director and NOT because they didn't have penises.
I loved Avatar just like everyone else, but just like any Cameron flick, there's not much going on beyond the special effects!
