What was your FIRST Sly Stallone movie?

Not your favorite or his best but the first film of his that you watched.

He was my third favorite action hero growing up. After JCVD & Arnie.

My first film(s) of his were the Rambo trilogy. It used to be shown every Friday on a local channel. And boy did I love 'em

Never get tired of watching them. No matter how many times I saw them, I wanted more

Rocky and Cliffhanger

Rocky
And to this day, it’s my favourite film and one of the greatest love stories ever told.

Second was Oscar and I absolutely love that one too. Incredibly funny, I never knew he could be that funny!

Compared to other Action stars of the era, Stallone had better comedic timing & delivery in my opinion.

Either Rocky or Cliffhanger.

in the cinema Cliffhanger (thinking about it i havent seen many SS films in cinema - Cliffhanger, Copland, Expendables 1, Escape Plan, Expendables 3. idk why didnt see EX2 at cinema, or Demolition Man, The Specialist, Judge Dredd, and Rambo 4 for that matter. and I recall I was desperate to see Rambo II but was just too young to sneak into a 15)

but first Stallone film i ever watched (on tv) mustve been Rocky II sometime in the early/mid 80s (and then Rocky IV in early/mid 90s), i didnt see any of the Rambos until i bought or rented them on vhs in the 90s (then the same with the likes of Demolition Man, Specialist, Dredd, Daylight, Get Carter, DTox, Rambo 4/5)

Rocky.

Can't say for sure but I think it was 'Over the Top (1987)'.

reply

One of my friend's dad had that on VHS. I haven't seen it since (in it's entirety) but kid me freaking loved that movie

What kind of a sap buys movies? Get it on PirateBay and burn it to a Bluray disc yourself if you want a physical copy.

I have been sailing the high seas for just as long. AAaaarrrgghh!! ☠️

reply

That's how I saw it too; My dad took me to one of his friend's house and his friend put it on for me and his kids. We loved it. I arm wrestled my dad afterwards. He won.

reply

That's honestly how I discovered a lot of films growing up. Between the ages of 8-11

My friend's dad would bring a new VHS tape on a lot of nights. We were neighbours across the hall.

That's how I discovered the films of JCVD & became my favorite action hero

reply

Yeah, we would rent movies all the time. I loved JCVD and Steven Seagal movies as a kid. I watched Bloodsport and Above the Law when I was 8/9 years old. I watched Above the Law so many times as a kid, that I could recite the entire script from memory and act out all the scenes.

reply

I loved kickboxer as a kid, I never could kick a tree down, tried a few times tho.

reply

Yes, I tried kicking trees using my shins too. It didn't end well for my shins.
I did have some luck with the splits though, I was able to do the side split like Van Damme when I was 9/10 after a lot of practice. And movies like Bloodsport and Kickboxer inspired me to get into martial arts for a couple of years (Kyokushin karate).

Speaking of shins and Kyokushin, here is someone from the same school I went to, breaking a baseball bat with his shin.

First Blood. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Rocky. When I was really little, I thought that the Rocky films were actual true stories, and that Rocky was playing himself in the role. I honestly thought that Rocky was the Heavyweight Champion of the World. I didn't find out that he wasn't until Rocky III. I said to my dad "Who is Rocky fighting? He beats everybody." My dad laughed and said "He's not the champion, that's just a movie." So, I found out in 1982, at the age of 6, that Rocky wasn't the real-World Heavyweight Champion.

reply

Back then, My friends & I actually called Stallone "Rambo". Like it was actually his name or something. lol

Also also, I actually never got to experience the Rocky films growing up. Not even a single one.

I only caught them on tv one night, in my late teens.
