His career went from 100 to 0 in a blink of an eye...

It always amazes me how he was so popular back in the 80/90s and then in the 90/00s he went to straight to DVD movies, people stopped watching his movies, etc.

I'm a huge fan... and this is just something that has always amazed me about Sly's career, perhaps in one moment in time he was the most famous actor in the whole world and in what appeared to be a relatively short amount of time moviegoers turned their backs on him.

Perhaps it was his fault for not choosing better projects/repetitive/evolution of the genre?

Perhaps he was typecast in the action-hero mold from the 80s?

Any thoughts about this? Thanks.

WTF are you talking about??? This guy is still immensely popular and has had a string of hits moderate or better the last 15 years starting with Rocky Balboa. He is 75 years old. Wth do you expect????. Most people that age are retired feeding their fat asses on the couch or dead...

Lol this was my reaction as well.

I was referring to that he had the top grossing movies on the entire planet, Rocky IV in 1985... 10 years later by 1995 he was bombing and shortly after that he had a period of direct-to-video movies which he fortunately was able to get out of.

The thing is you find it amazing. 100 to 0..lol. again he's 75 and probably back at around 60%. Hes doing excellent for his age bracket in film. Look at Harrison Ford. Same thing. He doesnt do as much. But both of them are doing astonished films for being in their 70's. No one did action in their 70's 60 years ago. Cornel Wilde was 53 in the naked prey in the early 60's and it was unheard of an actor in that age group doing the running and jumping he did in that film at the time....

It is amazing to me that from being at #1 in the WORLD he went to shitty DTV in less than a decade.

I love Sly and have supported his movies my entire life.

Happy to see him still making movies and King Of Tulsa.

He typecast himself, yo. Most of his recent films were produced by him or his buddies -
he wants control and he got it - and his recent films are all crap as a result. There's only so many good film ideas that one can have in his head - he had a good one with rocky and it jumpstarted his career - he also jumped onto a few decent project later on, but recently he's been producing most of his crap

reply

Yeah, I agree with what you are saying.
I still watch his movies though.
