He was involved in a sex scandal at a time when that's a career-killer - Kevin Spacey is a distraction and few productions would want or need the distraction of an accused sexual predator on their set.

The scandal outed him as being gay - Spacey came out due to the exposure related to his ongoing scandal. It's now very difficult to cast him in many roles because of that.

He's been acting like a weirdo since this matter began - People like contrition when it comes to their celebrities being involved in scandals. Spacey has done everything but act contrite and, in fact, has been acting strangely from the very beginning. That certainly hasn't made him more appealing as a performer.

The negative publicity will be too much - No one has been saying anything positive about Spacey for nearly three years. His publicity machine seems to have shut down, and there's been nothing offered by him to offset or balance out the scandal. It could take years or even decades to repair the damage (If it can be repaired) and he may not have the time.

He was already declining as a box office draw - Just prior to starring on the Netflix streaming series House of Cards, Spacey's career was returning to the character and supporting roles that he undertook when he was starting off in the 1980s. He was no longer a lead and his box office numbers were dismal. There's simply no percentage on it for productions to employ him on the future.
